Sculpture and Restoration Symposium at Nagyharsány

During the summer of 2025, within the framework of the Mohács 500 program, the almost 60-year-old Nagyharsány Sculpture Park has been completely reborn. Staff members and students of the Faculty of Music and Visual arts of the University of Pécs, along with the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, teamed up in the working process, during which three new sculptures were made on site, and previous art pieces went through a thorough cleaning and restoration procedure. Among others, the teachers and students of the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts who participated were: Ivett Kisapáti, Tamás Gaál, Gergely Mészáros, Balázs Sárkány. A photo gallery of the process can be viewed here.

The following video showcases the complexity of the restoration process from the point of view of Dr. Ivett Kisapáti (stone sculptor / restoration specialist, Institute of Fine Arts)

The aim of the program was not just to restore the artworks physically, but also to revive the legacy and the community-building aspects of the legendary sculpture symposiums and art camps of the '60s and '70s. As part of the comprehensive renewal of the sculpture park, the sculpture symposium program was also relaunched in 2025, serving as a workshop for students and renowned lecturers to work side by side.
